Our Beginning
What started as a simple Diwali outing transformed into a journey filled with purpose and empowerment.
While accompanying my mother to a crowded market to buy diyas, I met a talented artisan who shaped clay into delicate pots and ornaments. Her hands carried generations of skill, yet her voice carried disappointment. She called her work “bekaar” because outside the festive season, her income faded into uncertainty.

That moment shook something inside me. As someone who breathes art, I could not accept a world where creativity gets dismissed as impractical.

I returned to the market with determination buzzing through me. More artisans joined in, each bringing their creations. Clay earrings. Lanterns. Incense holders. Tiny masterpieces waiting to be appreciated. I set up a small stall at my society’s Diwali mela, giving artisans an advance and promising to return profits. Every single product sold out. The joy on their faces gleamed brighter than any diya in the night sky. That day marked the beginning of a mission.

I continued setting up stalls in nearby societies. Sales grew, confidence blossomed. Yet a realization surfaced. These creators deserved more than seasonal support. They deserved visibility, respect, and year-round livelihood. So a new idea took shape: a digital platform where tradition meets technology. A space to showcase their stories, skills, and products to buyers across India.
Over time, revenues began to flow steadily, bringing financial independence along with pride and dignity. Their art no longer hid in the shadows of festivals. It found homes, hearts, and hope.
Shilp has grown into a movement powered by storytelling, culture, community, and compassion. Every handcrafted piece holds a story waiting to be heard. Every artisan deserves to feel valued. Every diya, even if one of thirteen, has the potential to light up a life.
